What is the marketplace?

It’s like classified ads for your home-made or farm-grown products. Think old-fashioned newspaper ads meets craigslist – but prettier and easier.

Who can trade/sell on the marketplace?

Everyone is welcome to participate on the marketplace. If you are a small-scale farmer or homesteader making a living from selling produce or a hobby gardener trading surplus, as long as you are the producer of the items, all is good. If you are a reseller, wholesaler, or any other kind of middleman, please reach out to us first at [email protected].

What can I trade/sell on the marketplace?

Everything you produced with your own work can be put up on the marketplace. We are starting with the following categories: Plants, Seeds, Livestock, Meat, Dairy, Fruits, Vegetables, Staple Crops, Raw Materials, Crafts, Food, Books, BluRays & DVDs, Digital Products, Workshops & Courses, Art, Other services, Other. If you don’t find a fitting category, please put it in “Other” for now. We will check the “Other” section regularly and consider more categories in the future.

How do I trade/sell on the marketplace?

Please first register a permapeople account here or log in here. After this, you can start adding items here. Please fill out the complete form and click “Create Item.” Your item will be available on the marketplace shortly after.

We recommend checking the “open for trade” option, since we believe a direct trade between two parties not involving money is the most human way of doing it. You will learn so much more about the products and the people and work behind it. Also you will teach the same back to the other party.

I sold out an item. How can I unlist?

Please navigate to the item page or to the list of all of your items here and click “Deactivate.” Please provide a reason for deactivation. In the best case, a simple “I sold it!” is enough :).

Are there any fees?

No. In its current form, the marketplace is free to use for everyone. We are very small right now, and running costs are low. In the future, we are considering ways of volunteer contributing to sustaining the marketplace and it’s operating costs.

What happens when a customer places an order?

You will get an email with an order summary and a message from the buyer. Be assured that your contact details, including your email, are protected and not visible to the buyer. You will see a temporary permapeople address you can reply to reach the buyer. The same goes for the buyer.

How do I get paid?

Currently, the marketplace doesn’t offer any way of payment. Please negotiate with the buyer on payment details. In the best case your payment is produce you traded with the other party.

What happens if there are any problems?

What can I buy on the marketplace?

The marketplace is open to all products which can come from a backyard, garden, or farm. It is a producer-only marketplace. We are starting with the following categories: Plants, Seeds, Livestock, Meat, Dairy, Fruits, Vegetables, Staple Crops, Raw Materials, Crafts, Food, Books, BluRays & DVDs, Digital Products, Workshops & Courses, Art, Other services, Other.

Do I need an account to place an order?

No, you only need an email address. This email is not shown to anyone, not even the seller, since both sides use a protected temporary email address which relays emails to the given one to prootext your privacy.

How to place an order for an item?

On the item profile page, click “Place Order.” Then fill out your name, email, and an optional message to the seller and click “Place order” again.

What happens after I place an order?

The seller will get an email with your order and can reply to it. Make sure to wait for the response of the seller. It will show a temporary permapeople email, so both your and the seller’s privacy is protected. Please negotiate all following info like shipping costs, pickup times, or payment methods with the seller in this way.

What are the payment methods?

Currently, the marketplace doesn’t offer any way of payment. Please negotiate with the seller on payment details. In the best case you have some produce to offer and you both can make a trade of goods without any involvement of money.
