New Mexico, USA
A true arid lands food and fiber plant. Young green, fuzzy pods are similar to okra, mature seeds have been used as food or for oil, and mature pods (the βclawsβ) were used for basketry.
Handsome plant needs very little water. Looks succulent and almost like a squash with fuzzy leaves. Fun to touch. Lovely pink flowers. Needs well drained soil and full sun, but quite carefree. Grows to approx 1β by 2β.
