A true arid lands food and fiber plant. Young green, fuzzy pods are similar to okra, mature seeds have been used as food or for oil, and mature pods (the β€œclaws”) were used for basketry.

Handsome plant needs very little water. Looks succulent and almost like a squash with fuzzy leaves. Fun to touch. Lovely pink flowers. Needs well drained soil and full sun, but quite carefree. Grows to approx 1’ by 2’.
