Long-beaked sedge

Carex sprengelii

Description

A native North American sedge with arching leaves and distinctive nodding or hanging seed spikes. Each fruit is enclosed by a structure ending in a long tapered beak, which gives the species its common name. It grows as a woodland sedge rather than a turf-forming grass.
