a low growing perennial that roots at the nodes of runners and forms a mat. Small lavender, trumpet shaped flowers grow upright at leaf axils attracting bees from June to July. Flower colour can range from white to light purple. The fragrant leaves smell like mint.
Calamint thrives in well-draining, sandy soils in full sun. It is naturally found in wet meadows, rocky stream shores, and prairies. This species makes a great addition to a rock garden, perennial bed border, or open woodland planting.
