Plectranthus graveolens

Description

Native Basil is a low-growing shrub that can reach up to 1.5m tall with a 2m spread. It produces broad, fuzzy leaves throughout the year, with slender clusters of tiny purple/blue flowers during warmer months. Although it’s a type of mint, it is a very strongly aromatic with a fragrence that resembles basil, sage and mint.

Relationships

The Australian bush basil (Plectranthus graveolens) is quite different to the more common Ocimum minimum., though both come from the mint bush family.
