A perennial aster with broad, thin, toothed, arrow-shaped leaves and a dense, pyramidal inflorescence. Its flower heads usually have white ray florets and white-to-cream disc florets that become pink with age. It occurs in dry to mesic meadows, open woodlands, forest edges, bluffs, and roadsides.
