Sacred Datura

Datura wrightii

Description

Fast-growing, short-lived perennial native to the desert Southwest North America. Extremely drought tolerant.

A trap crop for tomato hornworms. Possibly useful for generating biomass.

Foliage is very frost-sensitive, but plant will regrow vigorously from the roots. Can be grown as an annual in colder zones.

All parts are poisonous to humans. Take caution particularly when trying to propagate the plant from seeds as the toxin is concentrated in the seeds!

The name comes from ritual usage of the plant by native peoples.
